WHERE ARE WE?

TRARALGON is part of the City of Latrobe and is a town of approximately 25,000 people situated in the Latrobe Valley about 160 kilometres south east of Melbourne in the State of Victoria, Australia.

Principal industries include electricity generation, brown coal mining, paper manufacture, a variety of light and heavy industries and the region is the home of Gippsland Aeronautics who manufacture agricultural and light passenger aircraft. The surrounding rural areas support sheep, beef and dairy production and we are a major regional centre for livestock sales.

WHO ARE WE?

Lions are people who have decided to give something back to their community. They are men and women who believe that by working together they can accomplish far more than would be possible alone.

Their ideal is one of service as a group to others without regard to race, religion, politics or the personal interests of our members.

Our reward is the satisfaction from knowledge that we have provided help and happiness when it has been needed.

Lionism should be looked at as a constructive form of relaxation. Working together on fundraising and community welfare projects can be tremendous fun. In addition, there are happy social occasions to which members can often invite their partners and sometimes the whole family.

Lions Clubs International is the biggest service association of its kind in the world with more than 1.4 millions members in 187 countries.

A Lions club has no full time organisers and all the work is done in our member's spare time with financial assistance from the community and the support and help of their partners and families.

The Lions Club of Traralgon was sponsored by the Morwell Lions Club and received it's charter on 27th April, 1966 with 27 members proud to support and serve the Traralgon Community.

We have chartered 2 other clubs - Heyfield and Orbost and conducted the District Convention in 1972 and during Australia's Bicentenary Year in 1988. Three District Governors (the first of which was Lion Arch Graham in 1972) and one Multiple District Council Chairman have come from within our ranks.

Club members are very committed to the Traralgon community through events such as Carols By Candlelight, the Senior Citizens Christmas party and, more recently the Community Fun Day. Community support projects such as the development of Newman/Victory Parks and assistance to those affected by the Black Saturday Bushfires at Traralgon South, Koornalla and Jeeralang North. The Club is also a strong supporter of the classic Lions Sight projects which support the Blind world-wide.

OUR SCOPE IS WIDE, OUR AIMS ARE PRACTICAL AND OUR SERVICE IS NEEDED.
