As with Lions Clubs throughout the world, we strive to support our local community but we never lose sight of the "big picture". Over the years we have been strong supporters of many District, Multiple District and International projects. Here are some of our "major" club activities:

TRARALGON SOUTH TOOL LIBRARY

In the aftermath of the 2009 Black Saturday Fires, a tool library was set up at Traralgon South to assist those affected by the fires to re-establish. The basic library was provided through the generosity of Habitat for Humanity and with the support of Lions Districts V5 & V3. The Library is open for business 8.30 am to 10.30 am on Saturdays and is now manned by local volunteers under the supervision of our club. It is located in Cats Avenue adjacent to the Oval pending completion of the Community centre behind the CFA Building.

SPINAL CORD FELLOWSHIP

Traralgon Lions club was instrumental in the foundation of the Australian Lions Spinal Cord Fellowship some 9 years ago. Whilst the Wellington Latrobe Lions Club is the current sponsor, we are proud to have been the Foundation Club for this wonderful Australian Lions humanitarian initiative. CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT

2011

Mother Nature smiled on us this year. Surrounded by weather systems of a serious nature, we got through the night without any rain delays. Sound problems did disappoint, however and our committee will be discussing these with Latrobe City.

Despite threatening weather, we saw a wonderful crowd of about 6,000 who enjoyed themselves right up to the beautiful fireworks finale.

A night such as this does not happen without outside support and we would like to acknowledge our 2011 major sponsors: Loy Yang Power, Latrobe City and McDonalds, Traralgon.

We would also like to acknowledge the support of our Master of Ceremonies, AJ, Latrobe City Council, the Traralgon City Band, the Lions Club Junior Choir, the Combined Churches Choir and various other artists who helped make 2011 a great community event.

SENIOR CITIZENS CHRISTMAS PARTY
2011

And another very successful Christmas Party was conducted at the Traralgon Bowls Club for about 200 seniors.

Entertainment was by the Dookie Brock Memorial Band, the Latrobe Valley Rockers and we had a very entertaining reading of Australian Christmas poetry by Gerard Cunningham.

We would like to acknowledge and thank all those who helped us make this day a success. A special thanks for the venue and catering services provided by the Traralgon Bowls Club is definitely in order. Transport was provided by LV Buslines and we had small buses provided by Valley Motor Group and Turnbull's.Our friends from St John Ambulance were not needed but were in attendance.

Lastly, we would like to thank the business community of Traralgon for their continued support of this annual event. Over 120 individuals or companies donated to ensure the day was a success.

NEWMAN PARK

Our club has been instrumental over the past few years in making Newman Park a showcase for locals and visitors alike. Starting with a Liberty Swing financed by the Variety Club some years ago, the park now boasts an 'access for all' type playground which includes a railway station and platform, a maze decorated by local schools, a teenage exercise/adventure area, an adventure castle, new BBQ facilities and new toilet facilities incorporating disability access.

Add this to the monthly appearance of the Model Railway Society, and you have a recipe for serious relaxation and adventure for all ages and abilities right here in Traralgon.

Thanks to the support of the Victorian State Government, Latrobe City Council and the Latrobe City community, we have made Newman Park a truly valuable regional asset visited by many hundreds of people every week.

PLEASE NOTE: Access to the Liberty Swing is controlled. Those with legitimate disabilities wishing access to this facility should contact the Latrobe City Council or Lion Allan Vickery on ph 03 5174 2279.
