Australia Day Celebrations
Over fifteen years ago, we thought that the then City of Traralgon should mark our National Birthday with an
event which was open to all citizens. A community breakfast and flag raising ceremony was proposed by us and accepted by the City.
The year 2010 saw a crowd in
excess of 1200 in Traralgon's Victory Park and we
cooked and served breakfast to most of them.
After the Flag Raising Ceremony many people set off on the Heart Walk. This
event remains an important part
of our contribution to the Traralgon community and has
the support of Latrobe City Council.
Charity Golf Day
Our 2011 Charity Golf Day was a resounding success,
thanks in no small part to the support of Westpac Bank, Traralgon and the
business community of Traralgon.
Profits from the day have been donated to 2 local
causes - LV Palliative Care and LRH
Operating Theatre (specifically purchasing a piece of very important equipment
used in treating Prostate Cancer patients).
The 2012 event planning is underway and is scheduled
for April 1st, 2012. We MUST thank Traralgon Golf Club and
Traralgon Guardian Pharmacy as well as a wide variety of Traralgon business
houses who give their generous support on the day.
Traralgon Farmers Market
Our Farmers Market is steadily gaining in popularity with an
average of over 40 stall holders in attendance regularly. Customers come from
all over Gippsland to savour the wide variety of fresh produce at Traralgon
Farmers Market.
For the second year in a row, our market was a finalist in the
Latrobe City Business Tourism Association (LCBTA) "People's Choice Awards".
It
is with great pride that we advise that the Traralgon Farmers Market won the
Community Service/Organisation Category. President Ted accepted the award on
behalf of the club and thanked the members and stallholders for their effort and
enthusiasm which resulted in our customers supporting our nomination
General Fund Raising
Our club is very conscious of the need to have funds available to help when ever and where ever the need arises.
One of our major fundraising activities involves a regular Saturday morning Spinning Wheel at Traralgon Centre Plaza. This spinning wheel enjoys enthusiastic support from the local community and the profits ensure we can give aid when most needed.
We also sell Lions Christmas Cakes and Lion Mints.
As you can see, we sizzle sausages with the best, and we are rapidly gaining a reputation for general catering which gives us opportunities
with many community events. Our club is well equipped and in every instance complies with both the Fund Raising Appeals Act and the current Victorian Food Handling Regulations.
